Uses Of A Con Server
There are countless technological advances that people use all the time but never give any thought to. Sometimes that is because the average consumer never has any need to deal with these devices directly, so in many cases they are not even aware of their existence. One of these convenient but mostly unknown devices is a con server, which can alternatively be called, among other things, a console server or a console switch.
The definition of a con server
In its simplest terms, this piece of technology consists of a box that can have more than one computer connected to it. What it is seems unimpressive compared to what it can do, which is allow many computers to be controlled at once.
The uses for this technology are many and varied. Companies use a con server to transmit customer data from a central location during service calls, allowing the representative to have access to pertinent information. Otherwise, each employee would need records for every customer on his or her own computer.
Another way that companies use this device is to make updating all of their computers far simpler. Rather than needing to visit every computer individually to perform the necessary updates, the person in charge of the network can update all of the machines connected to the network at once.
There are even some home uses currently. Home network management is one such use, including setting parental controls on various computers throughout the home. Even if you do not have direct experience with a con server being used in your home, chances are good that at some point in time one has positively affected your life.
