Administrator Tasks Made Easy With The Console Manager In MMC

April 12, 2011

The system administration can be handled better by the technicians if the MMC (Microsoft Management Console) is being used. It allows professional handling of the administrator’s job to secure, customize and maintain the network of computers. Whether a small business is using a few computers and operating through local area network or it is a big business using wide area network, the use of console manager is invaluable. Rather than using cryptic command codes it is a more time-saving tool to have in place.

The MMC is also useful for single computer setups. There are no complicated command lines here for the administrators to remember like Linux or UNIX. MMC works with Windows 2000 and onward systems.

It is easy to control the network using the console from Windows XP. One can access all the required modules by just typing the names in the Run box. While all the modules may not be visible in the Administrative Tools window it is one aspect of the console manager that is not spontaneous. Except this everything works fine. For the console’s list of short names one should consult the online documentation available at the website of the developer. Tweaking all the individual modules takes up some time to familiarize with everything.

Earlier UNIX camps used to complain about lack of flexibility available in the Windows OS. This shortcoming has been taken care of in the console manager. Many access modes can be used at the user level but it depends on the computing resources that the administrator is willing to give up to individual groups.
